The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VIII conducted a virtual webinar on “Gender Sensitivity Training and Discussion on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) for the newly hired DOST VIII personnel last March 08,2023.
The webinar was hosted by Ms. Hazelyn Benabaye. Mrs. Marilyn Radam, the Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations, in her opening remarks reminded personnel of the significance of embracing equity goals in the workplace and that activities aimed at sensitizing personnel to gender issues are imperative.
The resource speaker was Mr. Aivan Lloyd Calonia who is a member of DOST Wide Gender Speakers Bureau. He tackled the Gender Sensitivity and a discussion on SOGIE. Some of his topics include basic gender and sex concepts, gender roles, stereotyping, discrimination, the inequality between men and women.
The program concluded with a closing remark delivered by Assistant Regional Director Finance and Administrative Services Dr. Rufino Mengote who is a member of the Gender Focal Point System of the office.
