S&T Activities - In the view of Senior High School Interns

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office No. VIII conducted its 1st Technical Operation’s Meeting on March 9, 2023, 09:00AM-05:00PM, at Hotel de Fides, Real St. Tacloban City. It targeted to briefly discuss the following new DOST programs/projects: Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND; Smart and Sustainable Communities; Science and Technology Parks to Accelerate Research and Knowledge (KIST/SPARK); Visayas Blue Economy, and Women-Helping Women: Innovating Social Enterprises (WHWISE), together with the revisiting of existing programs/projects such as the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP); Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST/CREST); Scholarship Program; Grants-In-Aid (GIA); Technical Consultancy and Training; and Innovation, Science, and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology (iSTART).
The meeting was presided by Ms. Marilyn Radam, ARD-TO and was attended by the Technical Operations Unit Heads: Ms. Mae Anne Reyes, TSS Center Manager; Dr. Ramil Uy, STHRDPIC Unit Head; Mr. Roderick Pacañot, Planning Officer; Engr. Florentino Quiñones, Jr., MIS Head and FOB Coordinator; Dr. Lucia P. Dauz, GIA Coordinator, Ms. Jean Gay Ragub, TCTS Regional Coordinator; and the technical support staff from the different units. Joining the activity virtually were the Provincial Directors and personnel of the six Provincial S&T Centers.
GRIND, Smart and Sustainable Communities, KIST/SPARK, Visayas Blue Economy, and WHWISE programs/projects have various objectives aligned to its mission and vision. This includes guiding, overseeing, and organizing the nation’s technological and scientific initiatives with a focus on maximizing economic and social advantages for the countrymen. Moreover, these stated programs/projects have positively affected beneficiaries from various regions in the country. DOST VIII is aspiring for its positive outcomes in Eastern Visayas.
Other matters such as the Harmonization of the Technological Services in Region 8, BSC-based Accomplishment Reports, 2021-2022 R&D E & HR Survey, the Revision of the Customer Satisfaction Feedback Form and Online CSF, DOST VIII Information Systems, Online Customer Request Packaging System were also discussed.
