February 9, 2022 (Wednesday) - The Department of Science and Technology Region VIII Regional Director Ernesto M. Granada (3rd from left) joined by Biliran Mayor Hon. Gerard Roger M. Espina (4th from left), and BiPSU President Victor C. Canezo, Jr. (1st from left), in the turn-over of the DOST-8 CEST Project Fund to the Municipality of Naval for the project entitled "Science and Technology Based Intervention to the Marginalized Communities of Biliran Province," which has a total project cost of P0.5M at BiPSU Gymnasium, Naval, Biliran during the 2022 Livelihood Summit. The said project will provide S and T interventions for economically challenged community of Naval, Biliran whose beneficiaries are the San Pablo Farmers Association (SPFA). The project likewise includes the technology transfer on mushroom in bags culture through provision of needed tools and equipment to the beneficiary group; rehabilitation of the Tech4Ed project with the LGU through inclusion of STARBOOKS to be used as information support facility for the livelihood and information needs of LGU-Naval and making S and T R and D journals and other S and T information accessible to students and professionals; and lastly, preservation of mushroom products to sustain the availability of the mushroom in the market.

The project was conceptualized through the strong partnership forged by and among DOST-PSTC Biliran headed by its resourceful Provincial Director, Dr. Romeo L. Dignos, BiPSU, PLGU Biliran, and the Municipality of Naval. (By Jason TaƱa, DOST VIII)
