In a meeting brokered by DOST Leyte today, 2 February 2022, via Zoom, the Alto Peak Chocolates -- a local producer of dark chocolate bars and artisan chocolates, and, the Terra Global Salespartners -- a Filipino-owned marketing firm based in Yokohama, Japan, discussed the possibility of bringing the local tablea and other chocolate products to the international market, particularly Japan.

Mr. Albert Veloso-Mulles, Proprietor of Terra Global, shared information on how Philippine products can be imported to Japan, highlighting the requirements on packaging, labeling, manufacturing standards, and tips on the shipping of these product. He also asked specific information about the products of Alto Peak Chocolates such as melting temperature and nutritional facts analysis.

Mr. Noel V. Barquera, Proprietor of Alto Peak Chocolates, informed Mr. Mulles of his company's product lines such as unsweetened Tablea, Dark Chocolate Bars of various % concentration, Dark Chocolarte Tidbits, Milk Chocolate Bars, and the handmade chocolate bonbons in various ganache from imported wines to tropical fruits available in Leyte. Dark Chocolate like Spain’s pricy “VALOR” Dark Chocolate is rare in Philippines. The “Alto Peak” in the company name is derived from the location of their cacao plantation in Brgy. Cabintan, Ormoc City, which sits at the foot of Mt. Alto Peak also known as Mt. Aminduen, the highest mountain in Eastern Visayas. In 2021, the firm became one of the growing number of SMEs in Leyte availing DOST's Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

The zoom meeting resulted with the 2 firms agreeing to market in Japan (initially) the products of Alto Peak Chocolates, with Terra Global Salespartners serving as its exclusive distributor.

DOST Leyte and Terra Global Salespartners will continue to help bring all unique products of Leyte to international market, specially those assisted by DOST.
