The 2023 celebration marks a juncture in the advancement of women’s rights as it launches a new recurring theme from this year to 2028: WE for gender equality and inclusive society. It sparks a renewed commitment to the advocacy and banks on the gains achieved during the 2016-2022 theme, WE Make CHANGE Work for Women, which emphasized the need for compassionate and harmonized networks towards gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE).

DOST-Eastern Samar Turns Over Corn Mill Equipment to Boco Farmers Association in Can-Avid

DOST-8, thru Provincial Science and Technology Center – Eastern Samar, has officially provided a corn mill to Boco Farmers Association (BFA) last January 11, 2022 to enhance the processing of corn produce in Brgy, Boco, a former insurgency-affected community located 30km and a 3 to 4-hour upstream boat ride from the Municipality of Can-avid, Eastern Samar.
The turnover ceremonies held in LGU-Can-avid Municipal Hall was attended by DOST 8 represented by PSTC-Eastern Samar Provincial Director Dr. Arnaldo Amosco Jr. and staff. The activity was graced by the presence of the President of BFA, Mr. Ruben O. Obingayan, and Hon. Mayor Gil Norman P. Germino, Municipal of Can-avid, Eastern Samar, who expressed their appreciation and gratitude to DOST-8 for the unwavering support to LGU Can-avid and pledged to provide financial assistance to improve the facility that will house the diesel-engine-powered corn mill and the operations of BFA. This project is one of the efforts in support to the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC), Poverty Reduction Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) in accordance to E.O. No. 70, issued in 2018, otherwise known as “Institutionalizing the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace, creating a national task force to end local communist armed conflict, and directing the adoption of a national peace framework”. Funded by the Grants-in-Aid (GIA) program of DOST-8, the project will serve as a model community on S and T-based enterprises that will benefit the Municipality of Can-avid by empowering local farmers and residents to develop their entrepreneurial skills and competencies, and providing employment and income to at least 100 households at Brgy. Boco, Can-avid, Eastern Samar.
