On September 21-22, 2021, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VIII through the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Northern Samar conducted the Community Life Competence Process (CLCP) in the municipality of Biri, Northern Samar.

CLCP is a process that facilitates community action towards addressing a specific issue or concern. Most importantly, CLCP recognizes every community for its ownership of issues and local actions thereto. Municipal and Barangay Officials, People’s Organizations, Farmers, Fisher folks, senior citizens, out of school youth, students, women, and the LGBTQ+ community of LGU Biri took part of the two-day activity which was facilitated by Dr. Evelyn Tablante, Head of the Training and Consultancy Services at DOST VIII.

With the conduct of the activity, it is expected that the community will be able to strengthen and enhance further the capability of DOST to effectively implement the CEST program that envisions to build an empowered, resilient, healthy, safe, and sustainable community.

A seminar on Gender Conscientization and Disaster Risk Reduction Management was also conducted. The aim of the Gender Conscientization seminar facilitated by Mr. Aivan Lloyd Calonia was to introduce the basic concepts of gender analysis and gender planning to increase awareness and reduce the gender bias that informs the actions of individuals. The DRRM seminar on the other hand aimed to increase awareness and level support about hazards in the community.

DOST’s assistance in Biri was realized with the strong support of LGU-Biri and the community led by Mayor Antonio B. delos Reyes.
