In line with the declaration of the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte to implement the S-PaSS Travel Management System in all entry and exit points of the Province, the Office of the Provincial Administrator organized a seminar-workshop on the use and implementation of the S-PaSS on August 26, 2021 at the Southern Leyte Legislative Building in Maasin City, Southern Leyte. S-PaSS is a travel management system developed by DOST VI as a measure to manage travelers’ movement between municipalities and regions in the midst of the CoViD-19 pandemic.
The Provincial Administrator invited representatives from all municipalities of the province, as well as representatives from border control – the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).
The organizers also invited representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to serve as resource persons for the seminar-workshop. Engr. Florentino L. Quiñones of DOST VIII’s MIS discussed and demonstrated the background and usage of S-PaSS. To cater the participants’ questions in the Open Forum, S-PaSS project staff from DOST VI, Mr. Vince Carreon and Mr. Richvin Paul Velasco, joined the activity virtually through the Google Meet platform.
As an online travel management system for domestic travel during the CoViD-19 pandemic, S-PaSS has been described as a one-stop online communication and coordination platform for travelers and local government units in the Philippines. (Written by: Dan-Elijah P. Cobile, PA-I, PSTC-Southern Leyte)
