In the recently conducted DOST-Samahan sa Ikauunlad ng mga Kawani ng Agham at Teknolohiya (SIKAT) Board of Directors (BOD) election last 12 January 2015, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. VIII (DOST VIII) Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations, Engr. Ernesto M. Granada, leads the poll with a total of 381 votes making him to be the top notcher as to the number of voters garnered among the 10 candidates. Engr. Granada is followed by Diane Marie C. Bernardo of PES with 317 votes; Elvin B. Almazar of DOST-NCR with 315 votes; Rosario D. Balde of FMS with 305 votes; Corlita G. Canilao of the Office of the Undersecretary for S&T Services with 276 votes; Cherry G. Gonzales of PES with 257 votes; and Marciano L. Jacinto, Jr. of the Legislative Liason Office of DOST-CO with 237 votes, completed the 7-man composition of the BOD.
SIKAT has been organized to promote the general welfare of the DOST rank-and-file employees, as well as boost the morale of the member employees through programs aimed at enhancing the productivity and capacity of the employee-members to positively contribute to the attainment of the department's mandated goals and objectives.
Engr. Granada as Assistant Regional Director of DOST VIII also handles significant functions of the office's technical operations including the Planning; Chairmanship of the Regional Technical Evaluation Committee (RTEC), among others. A Civil Engineer by profession, Granada heads the special infrastructure committee of the office and he also serves as the permanent alter ego of the Regional Director in the Economic Development Committee of the Regional Development Council. As added significant task, Engr. Granada is also the over-seer of the Grant-In-Aid program of DOST VIII.
Granada's stint as one of the Board of Directors of SIKAT is expected to create friendly policies beneficial to all DOST employees who is a member of the oragnization considering his being a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) graduate and member/officers in some socio-civic organizations, among others. Granada, a quite famous name in the DOST system is also love by his colleagues in his regional office and is known to be a good source of ideas and solutions to critical issues and situations.
