The Department of Science and Technology in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and Chora Architects will be conducting a Region-wide seminar-workshop on "Holistic Green and Resilient Urban Infrastructure Development" this coming October 29 at Tacloban Celebrity Plaza, Tacloban City.

According to Engr. Edilberto L. Paradela, Regional Director of DOST Region VII, the main goal of the said seminar is to enhance the capacity of the policy and decision makers involved in environment and development, both in the urban and rural areas, to integrate e-sustainability and resilience in designing and constructing green and eco-efficient low-cost buildings.

Paradela added that this seminar is anchored on the current project implementation of UNESCAP to the project known as “Pilot Implementation of the Low Carbon Green Growth Roadmap for Asia and the Pacific” where Mongolia, Nepal and the Philippines are included in addition to the ASEAN sub-region.

The participants of this seminar are the Provincial Governor of the Province of Leyte, the City Mayor of City of Tacloban and Ormoc, the Municipal Mayors of the typhoon-Yolanda affected towns in the Leyte Province, heads of the various national government agencies, heads of non-government organizations and representatives of international organization, as well as practicing engineers and architects are the primary target of this seminar.

The advocacy should bring them to support the rehabilitation and recovery initiative of the government as well as to supplement inputs to the ongoing pilot project implementation by the UNESCAP on disaster and climate change resilient buildings in the ASEAN countries.

About 30 participants are expected to attend the said event.

This seminar is jointly organized by the Department of Science and Technology of Region VII (Central Visayas) and Region VIII (Eastern Visayas). (DOST VIII STHRDPIC)
